Botswana Bike Challenge supports our Mothers

Mothers for All is delighted to announce that this year's Botswana Bike Challenge will be raising funds for our organisation as well as the Botswana Tree Planting Foundation and the Maun Counselling Centre. Furthermore we are actually participating in the event. Sarah Cahillane, an ex US Peace Corps volunteer who is now working full-time for Mothers for All, will be cycling in this gruelling 12-day, 1,200 kilometre event.

Last year some of the money raised by  the Bike Challenge was used to plant over 5,000 indigenous trees in the denuded parts of the Okavango Delta and support WAR (Women Against Rape). The aim of the Botswana Bike Challenge, an annual event which has now been going for four years, is to raise both environmental awareness and money for different charities.

This year the challenge will involve a round trip from Maun in the North West down to Serowe in the Central District. Maun is the tribal capital of the Batawana people which, with the extraordinary growth of tourism in the nearby Okavango Delta, has transformed itself from a rather 'wild-west' rural frontier village into a thriving town spreading along the Thamalakane River. Serowe, on the other hand, is famous as the birthplace of Sir Seretse Khama, Botswana's first and much loved President, and as the traditional capital of the Bamangwato tribe.

Sarah has been training hard for the last couple of months in preparation for the ride which will take place in August. Mothers for All would like to thank her for her extraordinary commitment to the organisation and wish her all the best for this incredible test of stamina.
