Meet the Mothers

Every Mothers for All member falls into one or both of the following categories:

  • HIV-positive mothers caring for their own HIV-negative and/or HIV-positive children
  • Women caring for orphans or vulnerable children who are not their own – this includes grandmothers looking after orphaned grandchildren, women caring for their orphaned siblings’ children, and women who adopt, foster or support such children in any way.

The very first members of Mothers for All were Ida, Letia, Maipelo and Rose from Selebi-Phikwe who, together, care for over 15 orphans. This town was targeted as it has the highest rate of HIV infection in Botswana and therefore the highest relative number of orphans. More groups are being formed in Selebi-Phikwe as well as Serowe, Nata and Moreomoto.
